women’s weekend in the san juans

What will Women’s Weekend in the Juans offer?

This Hut Based leadership getaway will offer you the foundations of backcountry skiing and split boarding all while being led by two inspiring female identifying guides. An all women’s/female identifying course will provide a safe space for all who identify as women and non-binary.

You will become more confident in the outdoors, help you gain your voice when making decisions in the backcountry, and grow into a leader in and outside of the backcountry. Lastly, it’s all about fun. We are always here for a good time so we can inspire more women to get out there and enjoy the pow!

Where will this getaway run?

Women’s Weekend in the Juans will run three full days out of the Addie S course on Red Mountain Pass. This ski hut has four single beds and four queen beds with one couch.

Breakfast & dinner are included.

How much skiing will we actually do?

You will get an incredible amount of practice skinning uphill, transitioning, and riding down hill in fresh untracked snow. Our guides and instructors all have a background in education and will provide you the craft of backcountry decision-making and terrain travel. Note, this getaway is not just for beginners. It is tailored to those who are looking to gain more experience with other women in the backcountry. All levels, AIARE certification or not, are welcome with open arms.

Where You Will Stay

Silverton Lodging

Silverton provides an ideal base camp for our AIARE Avy 1 Hut Course and the Addie S cabin puts us on the door step of our classroom for duration of the class. Perched just off the summit of Red Mountain Pass, the Addie S cabin boasts incredible views, unparalleled access to amazing skiing, and a cozy environment to hit the books and learn the fundamentals of avy education. With next to no light pollution, stepping out on the deck and gazing up reveals a sky littered with stars. Surrounded by nature you can’t help but begin to pick up on the subtle signs we will teach out to observe when considering terrain selection during the course. There truly is no better way to learn avy education than from a mountain hut.

where we will meet

On the first morning of the Women’s Intro to Backcountry Skiing + Equanimity Course, we will have a meeting at San Juan Expeditions HQ.  We will go over the itinerary for the next three days, you will meet your guides, we will be sure all liability waivers have been completed and then we will head straight out into the field. After the first day of the course, meeting locations may vary depending on the tour plans for the following days. All this information will be shared with you by your guides and instructors.
