Climbing in Unaweep Canyon
  • Duration 7-8 Hours
  • Rock Climbing

Explore and climb in Unaweep Canyon with us!

Unaweep Canyon outside of Grand Junction has exceptional traditional rock climbing on metamorphic granite gneiss. Routes exist up to 4-5 pitches in length. This area is a great venue to learn crack climbing technique while retaining a bit more variety in the climbing style compared to the wingate sandstone venues. Unaweep is also a great venue for learning to follow multi pitch climbing or learning to lead traditional climbing.

The entrance to the canyon hosts exceptional bouldering on Dakota Sandstone for those who like to pull down hard on crimps and throw heel hooks. Unaweep is best as a shoulder season climbing destination in the spring or fall and pairs well on a multi day trip with a climb or two in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison or climbing days spent on Moab’s sandstone cracks and towers.
