CoVid-19 Policy and guidelines
We understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic; our goal is to provide our clients with the experience they seek without compromising their safety or the safety of our staff. We are adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines and timelines, as issued by La Plata county.
General Business Practices:
- We will encourage our employees to use conservative social distancing behavior while not at work to reduce their exposure to COVID-19 and therefore the exposure to our clients.
- We will conduct daily symptoms check of all employees.
- Staff will receive oversight/auditing by management to ensure they’re following these guidelines.
- AEW will focus on private & small group guiding over group larger enrolment adventures.
- We will be diligent on following these stated guidelines.
All Client and Guide Screening Questions:
- Do they have?
- Dry cough
- Shortness of breath
- Sore throat
- Diarrhea
- If so they will be directed to go home and get tested for COVID-19.
- Have they traveled in the past 14 days?
- Have they been in contact with anyone known to have the COVID-19?
Rock Climbing/ Mountaineering Guidelines:
- Meet and gear up all clients outside of our office.
- Guides and clients will drive separate vehicles to the trailheads.
- Communicate to clients the goal of maintaining 6 feet apart throughout the trip.
- Demonstrate skills like putting on a harness, tying a knot, belaying, etc.
- Use techniques like clipping in instead of tying in to reduce close contact with clients.
- Guides to carry a number of face masks and gloves/ PPE to provide protection in the case of a need to perform 1st aid or assist a client closer than 6 ft apart.
- Guides to carry hand sanitizer for themselves and clients for use before and after sharing climbing gear.
- Helmets and metal climbing gear will be disinfected each day after use.
- Ropes and other soft goods (harnesses, belay gloves) will be put on a 48 hr rest/use cycle or washed after use.
- Climbing shoes will be sprayed and disinfected after each day of use.
Backcountry Skiing Guidelines:
- Meet and gear up all clients outside of our office.
- Guides and clients will drive separate vehicles to the trailheads.
- Communicate to clients the goal of maintaining 6 feet apart throughout the trip.
- Demonstrate and coach skills instead of doing the task for the clients such as: Using an avalanche transceiver, putting skins on skis, etc.
- Any shared client gear like helmets, beacon, shovel, probe will be disinfected after each use.
Camping Guidelines:
- Meet and gear up all clients outside of our office.
- Guides and clients will drive separate vehicles to the trailheads.
- Guides and clients will sleep in different tents, as will clients of different family groups/households.
- Communicate to clients the goal of maintaining 6 feet apart throughout the trip.
- Demonstrate and coaching skills instead of doing the task for the clients such as: Setting up tents, lighting stoves, preparing food, etc.
- Guides to carry a number of face masks and gloves/ PPE to provide protection in the case of a need to perform 1st aid or assist a client closer than 6 ft.
